Adalatwada ( Adalat Rajwada ), Satara

Adalatwada ( Adalat Rajwada )
After Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Rajaram Maharaj had to go to Jinji and Maharani Yesubai had get capture by Aurangzeb along with her nine year old son Shahu Raje. Later in the year 1699 ( June ) Rajaram Maharaj came to Satara and announced that his new capital was Satara. Later, after Aurangzeb's death, Shahu Raje was released from prison ( Year 1708 ) and he came to Satara and was crowned at Satara. Satara was a small village at the foot of Satara fort.  Shahu Raje developed it when it became the capital. At the same time, it was renamed as Shahunagar and some wadas were built over there. Hence, remains of Adalatwada and some other structures can be seen in Satara today.

The structure of Adalatwada is still standing today. When Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj started his administration in Satara, he built this palace for judgement and other government related works. Hight of wada is 10 feet high, 67 meter long and 48 meter wide castle has remained impregnable for almost 300 years. The entrance to the castle is magnificent and has rectangular steps leading from the road to the entrance. The entrance is decorated with five windows and has stone walls on both sides. The door is sturdy teak, and its appearance still looks new. Once inside the castle, there is a magnificent square and the two-storied four stands in excellent condition. Adalatwada used to be called 'Old Court'. In the year 1849-50, when the then king was rich Abasaheb Chhatrapati, the British took possession of all the wealth and auctioned it. It was taken by Chhatrapati. So today we are seeing this Adalatwada. This courthouse was considered the High Court of the Maratha Empire. People like Chhatrapati Himself, Peshwa, Chief Justice used this wada to pass judgement for all the cases. On the one hand, the people of Gujarat from Sabarmati, and Kanadi people from Tungabhadra used to come here to settle their claims.

Shree Badaviling Temple, Krishnapura, Hampi ( Karnataka )

Shree Badaviling Temple, Krishnapura, Hampi ( Karnataka ) A huge monolithic Shiva Linga inside a cella, built by the side of the Lakshmi-Narasimha Temple enclosure. The Shiva Linga has a three-eye mark drawn on it in line carving. The three-eye mark depicts the three eyes of Lord Shiva. It is believed that the temple has been in existence since the period of the Vijayanagara Empire. This huge Linga, which is about 5 meters high, is locally called by the name Badaviling or Badavilinga. It is noteworthy that a channel that runs by the side of this shrine is diverted to enter the cella and thus this Linga is made to stand amidst water always. This Linga is situated inside a small stone chamber. There is a single opening in front of the chamber through which devotees can get in. An interesting thing to note about the design of the stone chamber is that it has no ceiling. During the daytime, sunlight enters through the opening in the ceiling and floods the Shiva Linga wi...
